6. NOTES
(This section contains information of a general or explanatory nature that may be helpful, but is not mandatory.)
6.1 Intended use. Type A and B gauges including replacement glass sets are intended for direct boiler-water
reading on US Naval surface ships. Type C indicators, including gaskets, glass, and glass sets are intended for
boiler applications not covered by Types A and B, and direct reading tank level applications on U.S. Naval ships.
The replacement gaskets alternatives for Type C gauges are intended to allow specific materials shown on detail
drawings to be procured under this document. This document should not be used where specific gasket shape/size
and material requirements are available on separate NAVSEA drawings such as 820-5348665 for nuclear plant
applications.
6.1.1 Type A. Type A gauges are for use on main boilers and large auxiliary boilers.
6.1.2 Type B. Type B reflex gauges are for use on auxiliary boilers.
6.1.3 Type C. Type C gauges are for use on waste heat boilers requiring 150 psig flanged reflex gauges. These
gauges and welding pad designs included in Type C are used in a variety of tank-level indicating applications.
