3.14.3 Clamping device. The frame of reflex gauges (except welding pad design) shall be clamped to the cover
by U-bolts, the U-bolts extending through the cover and retained by nuts. Means shall be included in the frame or
cover to retain the U-bolts in position when the cover is removed. Bolting used in all Type C designs shall be in
accordance with 3.12.10.b requirements.
3.14.4 Glass. Refer to requirements of 3.12.3 or 3.13.1.1 as applicable for glass requirements. Replacement
transparent glass shall be suitable for HP service regardless of pressure rating of Type C indicator.
3.14.5 Gaskets. Two gaskets of 1/16 or 1/32 inch thickness shall be furnished with each glass unless otherwise
specified (see 6.2). The outside dimensions of the gaskets shall be the same as those of the glass for which they are
intended. The bearing surface of the gasket shall have a uniform width of not more than 3/8 inch and not less than
/16 inch. Type C indicators may use a variety of gaskets based on the fluid service, in accordance with Table V. In

addition to those listed below, the MIL-DTL-24696, Type I and II gaskets supplied with Type A and B gauges may
be selected. Type II gaskets can be used in steam service up to 150 psig per 366 °F, water service up to 400 psig per
300 °F, lube oil system up to 150 psig per 250 °F and hydraulic or other petroleum based oil systems up to 600 psig
per 180 °F. Where detrimental material requirements of MIL-DTL-24777 apply, special test requirements in
addition to those listed in the line callouts are required.
