MIL-PRF-25439C
3.4 Performance. The transmitter shall be capable of meeting the requirements specified
herein when subjected to the following conditions:
a. Temperature - Temperatures within the range of -54° to +71°C.
b. Humidity - Relative humidity up to 100%.
c. Salt spray - Exposure to salt sea atmosphere for a 50 hour period.
d. Vibration - Vibration incident to service use.
e. Fungus - Fungus growth as encountered in tropical climates.
f. Explosion proof - Operation in an explosive vapor within or surrounding the
equipment.
g. Altitude - Pressures ranging from 30 inches Hg down to 3.4 inches Hg (approximately
an altitude of 50,000 feet).
h. Shock - Shock forces as anticipated.
i. Dielectric strength - A potential of 550 V AC, 60 Hertz for a period of 10 seconds
when applied as specified in 4.5.
j. Leakage - A hydraulic proof pressure of 240 psi applied and maintained for 5 minutes.
k. Cycling operation - The system shall be capable of operating for 500 hours of actual
or simulated flow through the transmitter without failure when tested in accordance with 4.5.26.
3.4.1 Radio noise interference. The transmitter shall meet requirements of MIL-STD-
461, Emission and Susceptibility Requirements CE102 and RE102, except that the frequency
range shall be 0.15 to 150 MHz.
3.4.2 Contaminated fuel operation. The transmitter shall operate satisfactorily with fuels
contaminated to the extent specified in 4.5.28.
3.5 Materials. Nonmagnetic and nonferrous materials shall be used for all parts of the
transmitter, except where such materials are essential. Metals shall be corrosion resistant or
suitably treated to resist corrosion. Unless suitably protected against electrolytic corrosion,
dissimilar metals shall not be used in intimate contact with one another.
3.5.1 Protective treatment. When materials are used in the transmitter that will
deteriorate when exposed to climatic and environmental conditions likely to occur during service
usage, they shall be protected against such deterioration in a manner that will in no way prevent
compliance with the requirements of this specification. The use of any protective coating that
